Jubilee of Prof. Pawlak, International Conference and Africa Days 2024

On April 15, 2024, the international conference “African Languages and Cultures from Diverse Perspectives” was held, organized by our Chair. Several dozen papers were presented. The participants included guests from Poland, Nigeria, South Africa, Portugal, Germany, the Czech Republic and Italy. Our foreign students from Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Senegal and Tanzania also presented their topics.
A day later, i.e. April 16, 2024, the 50th anniversary of the scientific work of Prof. N. Pawlak took place. Dozens of guests from Poland and abroad came to pay tribute to the outstanding Polish Africanist, linguist and expert in the Hausa language. The ceremony was honored by the presence of prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria; prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw and prof. Piotr Taracha, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. The event was hosted by Dr. Patryk Zając, who presented the scientific achievements of prof. Nina Pawlak. Prof. Nina Pawlak delivered a lecture entitled: “African Studies in Poland through the Lens of my own Experience.” After the official part and the presentation of gifts to the celebrant in the Senate Hall of the University of Warsaw, there was a reception for guests.
As part of Africa Days 2024, on April 17-18, 2024, our Chair was visited by: Dr. Umma Aliyu Musa from the University of Hamburg, who taught Hausa languages classes to the students of African studies, as well as prof. Lionel Posthumus from the University of Johannesburg (South Africa), who delivered two lectures for our staff members and students. On April 18, 2024, in the afternoon, workshops on African languages were organized by our students.
